For 32 years, Blaire House, at 20 Claflin St. in Milford, has played an important role in the lives of senior citizens in the region. Originally, a 61 bed skilled nursing facility, Blaire House expanded in 1995 adding 12 skilled nursing beds and an Adult Day Health Care Center which serves about 65 seniors, six days a week.
The Adult Day Health Care Program is for seniors who are relatively independent, but want to socialize with their peers. A unique advantage of this program is that in addition to the social model, it includes a medical model. Participants’ medical needs can be monitored, medications administered, diabetics have blood sugars monitored and rehab services are available to them. The Day Care has a locked Alzheimer’s and Dementia care program, nurturing its participants and providing a respite for the caretakers at home.
Blaire House vans and buses can be seen all around Milford and surrounding towns transporting the Adult Day Health Care participants to and from the center. The transportation is also available for the residents of the skilled nursing facility and for seniors in the community for medical and other appointments.
Patients requiring additional post acute care prior to going home find Blaire House a great place to obtain rehabilitation and medical management while recuperating. People of all ages and care needs find personalized care in a homelike environment which assists them in regaining strength and functional independence so they can return safely to their own homes.
In recent years, Blaire House has increased its visibility in the community by hosting fundraising events. Seniors and others in the community attend, and ultimately the funds go back to the population Blaire House serves. The Taste of Milford offered a whirlwind tour of Milford-area restaurants with proceeds going to Tri Valley Elder Services, an organization that services the needs of local elders. The Craft Fair held each spring raises funds for the Visiting Nurses Association.
The Blaire House staff’s primary focus is to make sure your loved ones live a rewarding, comfortable life in a friendly, caring family environment and it all starts when you enter the lobby that resembles a family room at home.
