Q: What is the difference between a traditional nursing facility and a Specialized Alzheimer's facility?
A: A Specialized Alzheimer's Facility includes a higher staff-to-patient ratio as well as a specific activity and therapeutic recreation program for those with memory impairments. Blaire House is dedicated entirely to seniors with Alzheimer's or related memory loss providing a safe milieu without the stigma of separation from others.

At Blaire House our program is designed to present a predictable and nurturing world for those afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease and related dementia. The philosophy is to emphasize the abilities and the memories that the individuals do have, as opposed to focusing on the skills they have lost. Our center is also designed to safe-guard against wandering behaviors so families may experience peace of mind knowing their loved one is safe. All staff, regardless of their title (Licensed Nurse, Nursing Assistant, Activities Assistant, etc.) undergo a comprehensive Alzheimer Certification course. This multi-session intensive program gives staff the understanding and skills they need to provide a solid foundation to the residents as well as an atmosphere of unconditional respect and support.

Q: How often are Specialized Activities provided, and are they provided on nights and weekends?

A:   Blaire House understands the importance of low stimuli, failure-free, flexible approach to activities. We provide planned programming seven days a week as needed to meet the needs of our special residents. Our staff also works with our residents in providing activities throughout the night when indicated.

Q: Does the facility offer in-house rehabilitation to those with a dementia diagnosis?

A:   At Blaire House, our focus is caring for persons with memory impairments. Our rehab and restorative staff are trained in areas of approach, behavior management, and communication. They work at the resident's pace to provide a safer climate and comfortable setting for rehab to take place. We are better equipped to maximize physical functioning for the cognitively impaired resident.

Q: Do all families suffer the helplessness and frustration of a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease?

A:
Families trying to deal with Alzheimer’s disease and it’s devastating effects are subject not only to the trauma of the loved one’s symptoms, but to their own helplessness, lack of knowledge, and frustration. Discouragement, and the very human responses of guilt and anger, can often lead to despair.  If you and your family are bearing the burden of Alzheimer’s disease in a loved one, there is much we can offer you. Our staff is dedicated to providing the best possible care for patients and their families. Contact us today for more information. We are here to help you!
