Brandon Woods Honors Grandparents

Residents of Brandon Woods of Dartmouth Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center celebrated Grandparents’ Day with a special dinner and one of their favorite events by Farm Visits from Swansea, MA. The barn animals ranged from plush Lionhead bunnies and black Silky chicks to a diapered baby goat. A baby pig was on its way into the world and therefore not present. Residents, family, and staff got a chance to hold and coddle the furry friends, triggering happy childhood memories and conversation. Some of the Portuguese residents reminisced about the ‘ole days, working on the farm in the “old country.” Pet visits are a great form of therapy, which is just one of the many services and activities that Brandon Woods provides. Brandon Woods Celebrates Nursing Home Week

Brandon Woods of Dartmouth Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center threw their annual, week-long party to celebrate their residents and staff. This year’s theme captured “The Rockin’ ‘50’s!” Residents, family, and staff first enjoyed a Sock Hop with Gary Farias, followed by the classic movie, Some Like It Hot, games of the ‘50’s, 1950’s trivia, and “Rockin’ & Rollin’” with Mike Courcy. Prior to that week, residents enjoyed a Mother’s Day social with their loved ones. Pastries were served and gifts were handed out while Wesley Rochelle played piano music. Brandon Woods of Dartmouth Appreciates Staff

Brandon Woods of Dartmouth Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center recently honored their employees for the immediate care and exceptional service they gave to the numerous seniors that were in jeopardy. As many know, five local nursing homes closed, therefore those residents needed to be transferred and placed in other facilities. Brandon Woods of Dartmouth’s and New Bedford’s admissions department, nursing staff and van drivers arrived on-site for an urgent yet safe transport. Waiting at their new home, every department and all staff played a role for a smooth transition for their new residents. In the end, all seemed to settle in comfortably and meet up with ‘ole friends. Pictured (l-r) are Leanne Cebula, LPN, Tem Shodunke, Executive Director, and George Abreu, Cook.

Mardi Gras at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth

Felines, birds, mystery and beauty came out at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center as residents, visitors, and staff celebrated Mardi Gras. The residents showed off their ornate masks and beads while they enjoyed live Dixieland music by Dave Valerio and indulged in “Fat Tuesday” pancakes. Fat Tuesday is the colloquial name for Shrove Tuesday, the day before the beginning of Lent. In German it is known as Fetter Dienstag, and in French, Mardi Gras. Whatever it is called, it is most common in predominantly Catholic areas—except the Philippines. The original purpose of Shrove Tuesday was to prepare spiritually for the advent of Lent. People tend to indulge in sweet, rich and fatty foods as a last hurrah before the Lenten period of fasting that begins the next day on Ash Wednesday. Traditional pre-Lenten foods consumed on Fat Tuesday include pancakes, doughnuts and pastries.
